Two of my favorite local restaurants have announced promotions that seem to be in response to the struggling economy. fire added half portions of selected entrees to their menu a few months ago. Now, they’re planning to debut a bar menu on April 5. They’ll also start making some of their own bitters and syrups. Details on the food are limited but I remember something about truffled pop corn, fish and chips, pickled quail eggs and a pulled pork sandwich.
Moxie‘s offering is a three course meal for $33.
3 for $33 Prix Fixe at Moxie
For the rest of this month, come for dinner at Moxie any night of the week (we’re
open Monday through Sunday) and choose any appetizer, entrée, and dessert from a
special 3 for 33 menu for only $33. Appetizer choices: butternut squash panzanella
or beef tenderloin Carpaccio; entrees: pan-roasted summer flounder or pan-roasted
pork chop; desserts: choose any off the regular menu.

These same two restaurants are also hosting upcoming wine dinners. fire’s dinner on March 25, is the next in their monthly wine dinner series. (upcoming.org listing)
The menu is available on their event announcements page. You don’t see veal breast very often around here. Coincidentally, Moxie has it on their menu now. Aside from that, the only place I can think of that has it is Corky and Lenny’s. I think the veal breast alone is appealing enough to get me to go to this dinner.
Moxie’s wine dinners are sporadic. The next (after the Fool’s Frolic benefit) will be on April 20. (Upcoming.org listing)

special five-course wine dinner hosted by William Whiting, Banfi’s wine education

The pork chop was pretty good. The roasted bacon really helped. When the pork chop at fire realizes its true potential it has that combination of flavors without the extra bacon.
